Dawn Saunders - lead clinical audiologist

My journey into audiology began in 2008 when I responded to a recruitment drive by the Scottish government for science graduates to join the audiology profession. From there I embarked on a 2 year graduate diploma in audiology at Queen Margaret university in Edinburgh and the rest as they say is history. On completion of my audiology course I worked in several NHS audiology clinics throughout Edinburgh and the surrounding areas providing me with the opportunity to consolidate my skills in both adult and paediatric audiology. Now educated to masters level with over 15 years clinical experience in both the public and private hearing sectors I bring a diverse knowledge and skill base in all areas of audiology with a specialist interest in paediatric assessment and rehabilitation.

In 2019 I set up an independent hearing clinic with an audiology colleague called Edinburgh Audiology Rehab in response to significant waiting times within NHS hearing clinics post covid. The clinic has went from strength to strength providing an affordable alternative to NHS audiology provision. After an enjoyable 5 years building Edinburgh Audiology Rehab together we recently made the decision to dissolve the company in order to pursue our own particular areas of interest within the field of audiology hence the creation of my new independent audiology practice ‘‘ The Ear Works’’.

In addition to running my own independent audiology clinic I also work as a clinical audiology lead in the NHS for Newcastle foundation trust and as a clinical audiology advisor for the Scottish public services ombudsman in Edinburgh. I am a mentor for the British Academy of Audiology and a volunteer for the National Deaf Children’s society, a charity very close to my heart.

I hold a professional registration with AHCS and HCPC and I am a member of the British academy of audiology.
